PROJECT NAME: REFINERY STABILITY STUDY

Sector: Petrochemicals/Refining
Description: Project involved the simulation of voltage and rotor angle stability for several synchronous machines within a large petrochemical / refining complex.
Scope of Work: Provided a time-domain analysis of the short term voltage and rotor angle stability for multiple synchronous machines, including approximately 300MVA and 95MVA of generators and motors, respectively.
Project Highlights: The numerous simulations yielded many unstable scenarios, which resulted in recommended changes to operational configurations, protection elements for clearing and fault ride-through, and underfrequency load shedding schemes.
The above image shows the results of a three phase fault scenario 20km along the transmission line, which shows significant synchronous motor rotor angle swing.
