PROJECT V

PROJECT NAME: PIPELINE POTENTIAL RISE ANALYSIS

Sector: Utilities/Petrochemicals

Description: Project involved the simulation of potential rise along a pipeline closely situated to a 240kV transmission line.

Scope of Work: Provided a time-domain analysis of the worst-case prospective potential rise along a pipeline during a single line-ground fault on a 240kV transmission line. Results were evaluated against IEEE Std 80.

Project Highlights: The results indicated that potentially hazardous voltages may be developed during a fault. Mitigations involving increasing protection speed and decreasing pipeline earthing impedances at specific locations were evaluated for their efficacy.
